CHURCH NOTICES
Canon Angus: is going to be away for the next couple of weeks on holiday. Last weekend Canon Angus the “Big announcement” that this Easter he will retire from active ministry. After sixty years of active ministry and at the wonderful age of 88 he is going to retire. He will continue to live on in the Chapel House in Northbay but he will no longer be Parish Priest. From Easter Sunday onwards Northbay Parish will be looked after by Fr. John Paul in Castlebay. More information on Canon Angus’ retirement and also future plans of what will be happening in the parishes after Easter Sunday will be announced soon.
Cridhe gu Cridhe: There are Cd’s of the lovely Gaelic Hymns available at the back of Castlebay Church. The Cd’s are priced £12.
Fr. Tom McCarte: will be holding a mini-retreat in Northbay parish this week. At every daily Mass in Northbay Fr. Tom will preach and then he will be available before and after every Mass for Confession. If you have the time please go along and listen to Fr. Tom and also take the opportunity of a visiting Confessor.
Children’s Liturgy: please note that since this weekend is a mid-term Holiday there will be no Children’s Liturgy today in Castlebay.
Recent Death: we pray for the repose of the soul of Janet MacNeil (Dalzell) of Edinburgh & Craigston. Janet’s remains will be brought to Barra on Tuesday evening by boat and her remains will be taken to St. Brendan’s, Craigston. Please note that the Requiem Mass will be on Thursday at 11am. Eternal rest grant unto her O’Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen.
Also we pray for the repose of the soul of Peggy Law (Peggy Boyd originally from Rhu in Castlebay) who passed away last week. May she rest in peace. Amen.
Ash Wednesday: We begin the season of Lent with marking our foreheads with ashes on Wednesday. Please note the Mass times. Ash Wednesday is a day of Fast & Abstinence.
SCIAF “wee box”: we are encouraged each Lent to think about those less fortunate than ourselves. Please take home a SCIAF pack and within the pack there is a “Wee Box” and to pop in your spare change. At the end of Lent you can hand in your “wee box”.
Exposition on Saturday: In Castlebay, after the morning Mass, there will be Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament for one hour each Saturday during Lent.
St. Columba’s Gala Concert: the Cathedral is raising funds for the renovation work being carried out especially for the extra expense on the re-slating and insulating of the roof. The Gala concert will be in the Corran Halls on Friday 17th February. Paul MacCallum is the main organiser and it will feature Michelle McManus, Patrick Hughes (Irish Tenor), Rona Lightfoot, Oban Gaelic Choir and St. Columba’s Gaelic Choir. Tickets will cost £10.
Diocesan Youth Worker: Next weekend we will have Denise Roberts and her assistant Mairi-Claire McGeady in Castlebay parish. They are our Diocesan Youth Workers and it will be their first time visiting the islands. They are keen to meet with parents and island youth to discuss their Youth work. They wish to look at what can be done for our children to help them grow and love their Catholic Faith. Denise and Mairi-Claire will pop into Castlebay School on next Friday and on Sunday (26thFeb) they will have an open meeting for all parents and anyone else who is interested in helping our Youth know and practice their Catholic Faith in Castlebay School at 2pm. I want to see and good turn-out of parents and also Youth at this meeting.
