St Talarican                          October 30th

St Talirican, d.722, has often been claimed as yet another Irishman who brought Christianity to Scotland.  However, no Irish calendar includes his name.  His name is more likely to be of Pictish origin, therefore he was almost certainly of Scottish rather than Irish origins.  He was made a bishop by Pope St Gregory II and is famous for his devotion to daily Mass.

He worked mostly in the northern districts of Scotland, especially where his name is remembered at Kiltarlity, especially at Beauly Priory.

On the Islands of Skye and Taransay (off Harris) the saint’s name also appears associated with ancient graveyards and churches.  He is also associated with Benbecula parish.
