St Keiran (Ciaran, Queran, Kerran) 515-549, was born in Roscommon, descended from the Kings of Ulster.  Founded a monatery at Cavan, then started evangelising the south of Scotland and - especially, the south of Kintyre - Campbeltown Loch is properly known as Loch Kilkerran.  He had a cave some three miles south of Campbeltown.  St Columba wrote a hymn in his honour.
