*St Finnan                                      March 16th

St Finnan (Finan, Finnan the Leper, Finzean,).  His dates are uncertain, but he seems to have lived between 520 and 600.  Celebrated as the great evangeliser of the area of West Lochaber and all around Loch Sheil, though there are many places in Scotland that bear his name.  St Finnan’s Isle on Loch Sheil - the Green Isle - maybe the most famous and is certainly the most important: the oldest existing church in the diocese of Argyll & the isles, complete with cemetery and - famously, the ancient bronze bell!  The church at Glenfinnan, at the head of Loch Sheil, is dedicated to St Finnan.

St Finnan’s Fair was held at the Green Isle.  St Finzean’s Fair was held formerly in Perth.
