St Blane                                 August 11th

St Blane (Blaan) d.590, was born a Scot - on Bute, a nephew of St Chattan.  He was educated in Ireland and became a monk.  After making a pilgrimage to Rome, he set up a monastery at what is now called Dunblane.  He became a bishop and - after his death - devotion to him spread and there are many places named in his honour.

There was a popular pilgrimage to the St Blane’s sites on Rothesay till recent times.
